Murakami | Japanese Restaurant (Asian Fusion) at Marikina

Growing up, I did not like eating any as in ANY vegetables because of their either plain or bitter taste. Although I heard that when you eat strictly leafy foods only, your life span will be longer than an average person plus you can maintain your youthful look. And now that I am on my 20's, I find eating vegetables a must to intake vitamins and minerals to take care of our body better, as an option from taking tablets and capsules with promises of nurturing our body with it.

Before I encountered this restaurant, I only eat vegetables with a condition. And what condition was it? It was that it has to be combined with a delicious and very flavorful main dish. Like I only eat vegetables in and with a burger, when eating Tocino, Longganisa, or Okoy.. But now, it's different, I crave eating vegetables which I myself was shocked being in that situation.

Talking about this restaurant, its named Murakami. In Tagalog language, breaking the name in half gives you "Mura" and "kami" meaning affordable.

Murakami is a Japanese restaurant fused with a bit of Asian cuisine offered at very affordable prices. I am not familiar though if they do have more stores in other places but what I often visit is their branch here in Marikina located in the popular Bayan Bayanan Ave.

I discovered this restaurant through my cousin since this was her new favorite Japanese restaurant back then that is within our area, it is very near to our residence.

The restaurant serves Ramen, Yakisoba, Katsu Don, Tempura, Teriyaki, California Maki, Sashimi and more. They even have this unique dessert which is called Matcha ice cream that is like a green tea flavored ice cream, great news for green tea lovers out there.

Below is their menu. Approximately, their plates are averagely priced at about P150 per meal. And with that amount, it is not bad for a unique experience of eating a Japanese meal comparing it to other branded Japanese restaurants.

Personally, I have four favorite dishes here namely the following: Ton Katsu (Pork) [Bento Box], Tori (Chicken Teriyaki),  Kakiage, and Yasaiitame. 2 heavy meat meals and 2 heavy vegetable plates. What is so good about their bento boxes here is that it already has a small-sized vegetable serving included in the meal, the rice is mixed with many ingredients already that is like a "Yang Chow" style in other restaurants, plus a yummy red iced tea is added to quench our raging appetites. Their Tori (Chicken Teriyaki) is just so flavorful that when you start to take your first bite, you will be eager to finish it up until the last bit of it.

And for my most favorite (haha!) is their vegetable servings. Kakiage is I believe a deep-fried vegetable mix that is both crunchy and chewy in texture which makes it very fun to eat. And the Yasaiitame which is a stir-fried vegetable mix with a little bit of beef included. I just cannot imagine that a vegetable serving can be of that taste. It's not like I am eating vegetables, its more of like eating a delicious delicacy from another planet (haha! I really cannot describe its taste specifically but it is crazy good!). So now, I can eat vegetable meals itself without any other conditions.

But just a small trivia, eating Yasaiitame with Tori (Chicken Teriyaki) on a single plate is just perfect!

And that is why I occasionally call/text their numbers for delivery every time I crave for it. Though they only deliver on limited nearby areas only as they are just starting to get their market but rest assured that their meals will be worth your money, time and effort on doing so.

  2. Murakami is an interesting name when translated to Tagalog haha. In Japanese, what does it mean though?

  3. Nice play of words to create that name (reminds me of Nakamura which also serves Japanese inspired dishes). Do they have other branches or just in marikina?

The miso ramen looks literally like miso soup ingredients combined with noodles and meat. I'd like to try that!
