3 Reasons why I play badminton | Katipunan Prime

In growing up, we are usually exposed to playing and/or watching (at the least) variety of sports. There is a lot. There is basketball, volleyball, different kinds of tennis, swimming, running, and the list can go on, and on, and on. You'll be enjoying a few of them, but there will always be one which you'll love doing more than the others. For others, sports can be just a hobby in their free time. For some, it can be a career like being an athlete. For some, sports can be just an outlet of emotions to release stress. But for a few, it can be all of that and more. I don't know which category above, you consider yourself, you belong in, but for this blog post, I will share my take on the "3 Whys".

WHY badminton in all the sports out there? WHY play at Katipunan Prime considering a number of badminton courts are present within the area? And WHY playing badminton is good for you too..

I started playing badminton back when I was still a kid just beside our house. I vividly remember playing with literally anyone who is willing to play the sport with me. I'll play it with my brothers, cousins, neighbors, and I don't care how old you are. As long as you'll smack the shuttlecock back at me, we are good. And yes, to the point of playing with the wall if no one really was available. Back then, playing with any kind of racket with that plastic shuttlecock has been already happiness. If you even add the net in between us, come on, we'll consider it as ice cream on top. Thank you! Those were the days..

But naturally, as we grew with the sport, thus our expectations and requirements go along with it.

Let's start with the first why, which is "Why badminton in all the sports out there?"

I personally have tried most of the sport I knew. I enjoyed out-running my elementary classmates, played basketball, especially "HORSE" with my cousins, competed in volleyball with other high school sections, swims occasionally when a swimming pool is around (and table tennis too, if there is a table tennis table lol), tried lawn tennis against my older brother while he was on training, invitational badminton (in tagalog yaya-an, lol pinaganda lang) from college to employment life,  put in there soccer, baseball and even weightlifting recently haha! But going back, why badminton?

Thinking of comparing it from another sport, and filtering it based on a preference which is a non-contact sport and something you have to put intense force into, many will qualify. Another is the availability of persons to play with. Since I knew more persons who play and who are willing to play the game, it meant more invitation I was exposed to, to play it. And of course the confidence and enjoyment of playing the game. This was a big factor for me in making that decision to dive right in there and improve myself on playing the game. Starting it young puts an edge really about being comfortable in how you move inside the court. Aside from those is the availability of the venue, which will be tackled in the next why which brings us to it.

The second why is "Why play at Katipunan Prime badminton center considering a number of badminton courts are present within the area?"

I can definitely number this down for you with 7 major points:

1. Location - If you'll exclude me here due to geographical bias (hehe), this badminton center is surrounded by a lot of food, restaurants and business establishments which makes it very convenient to do more things aside from badminton. You can actually walk your way to Ayala mall Marikina from there too. So if you are planning to play badminton within or even near Marikina, I definitely recommend you guys visiting here first.

2. People - Both the staff and the players here are genuinely approachable and friendly - not all but at the least more, let's be realistic here haha. You can ask the staff behind the counter to find people who can play with you (if there are available) or most likely find here a group of players wanting to play with others too.

Play-All-You-Can Rates, Katipunan Prime
Play-All-You-Can Rates

3. Rate - As per visiting a number of badminton courts already (even outside Marikina), as far as I know, they have the most affordable rates yet compared to others. Their play-all-you-can range from P90 - P100 only.

4. Unlimited Water - For only P20 per cup, yes, twenty pesos only. You now can enjoy unlimited water from the water dispenser inside. You can even bring your own water container if you want to but of course, must be of a considerable size.

5. No. of badminton courts available - With 11 badminton courts available, you have the luxury to select the area you want to play inside. Just make sure to coordinate it at the counter before settling in the area. Please do note that on their peak hours, all courts can be taken for the exemption of the play-all-you-can courts which must be for sharing.

6. Activities and Events - The place is rich with good players that attract a number of training, tournaments and regular queuing programs to be held here. I am not sure if they have an in-house coach or trainer, but what I am sure though is that they can recommend you to a lot of their networks.

7. Ambiance and Aesthetics - To be honest, this is not their best asset, but knowing them for quite some time now.. Efforts to develop this area are now being seen. You'll actually appreciate it once you get used to the vibe there. Good job on the continuous improvement. At the least, we know that a better future is waiting for Katipunan Prime

And for the last why which is "Why playing badminton is good for you too?"

If I am going to say that I am searching for a healthy activity to avoid gaining weight, well almost all sport has that benefit. But the balance in badminton is just really on point. Playing badminton can serve as your cardio workout if you are lifting weights. Lifters know how boring cardio workouts can be, so why not do it in a more playful manner. You can also increase your strength here by powering your smashes through. You can vary your plays per turn and that's what makes every second of the game exciting. The best thing here is that it also develops your core, but you don't know it. As you play the game, balance is needed in every inch of your body while running to the right position to return the shuttle so it uses the whole body making it a full-body workout in some way.

Why should you play badminton too
Waiting for our turn to play

Secondly, you have to play it with at least a buddy. You have time to socialize not requiring a lot of body counts. The majority of sports need a group to maximize its potential to be fun, but not badminton. And to add to this, badminton is one of the sports where you can play it even with zero experience quite comfortably. If you are an experienced badminton player, you know it's quite complicated to improve on learning the different aspects of the game like coordination of footwork, balance, power, and accuracy, implementing it is still another thing. But it won't stop you from enjoying the game even if you are playing with someone who just started playing. Cool, right?

Lastly is a lifestyle. With this one, it is applicable to any sport or activity that makes your body move. Having a healthy lifestyle is important because its an investment you'll enjoy presently until the future. Aside from making you stronger and more confident about yourself, you just might have prevented a serious illness or disease landing your body because of that. Please remember that taking care of yourself is taking care of the others too.

"So hey, why not play in order for you to stay so others too will be okay."

I do better playing badminton than playing tennis. These two sports have very similar body movements and provide a total body work out. There is a badminton gym near my house. I should try playing the sport again sometime. Now all I need is someone who would be interested to play with me.

  35. badminton promotes physical fitness, it helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Exercise increases endorphins, which are the brain's feel-good neurotransmitters, and has also been found to improve mood and sleep.
