Fino Deli wine bar & delicatessen review

As we continue to feature new food places to discover, we stumbled into a neat food place in a surprising area (well, for us locals in the city). If you are in for some wine date night or some cozy yet professional ambiance for that special (or not) occasion, you may want to try them soon.

Fino Deli, a wine bar located in the upper part of the city of Marikina - Marikina Heights.

I was kind of familiar with the area since I studied in a school nearby and played badminton in its vicinity.. A few local museums and popular landmarks are also present here and some neighboring malls around.. So upon arriving at the location, that is where I understood why I haven't at least passed by their establishment, and it's because they are located at a somewhat inner street of Dao.

So as per the pandemic protocol, we filled-out some contact tracing forms, were disinfected, and temperature-checked before going inside the establishment.

By the way, we called hours before our visit to check if they can still accommodate us. Though not really required but they recommend reserving your slots before going and so we did.

The interior of the place is neat plus its color is very royal - winey red (if there is such a color, lol). I kind of digging it because it has a vibe of being homey but yet still manages to pull off the classy feel and oh boy, that is difficult to put those two together. Good job Fino Deli!

Their restroom was simply nice. I don't know what made this pleasing to look at but it is. Maybe the simplicity and the touch of a little outdoor (greenies!) made it work. What do you think?

But for my favorite spot, it has to go to this corner dining area surrounded by plants. This spot looks so comfy and it's cold too as a specific AC here keeps it that way. I would definitely request to be seated here next time. And yes, that is their wide parking space right next to those plants so no need to go and see to check if your car is still there (lol) as you can basically see it all from the inside.

They have this adorable outdoor space too if you prefer it. I really like how they use their space and manage to balance everything even to the smallest details. They have decorated the place well where it's not too much and not too minimalist as well, just the perfect balance.

Now for the food.. The irony here is that we are not wine people but we were there, eating. It's actually a good point to focus on that you can still visit this place even if you are not a wine-lover despite this place being labeled as a wine bar. Whether you want a time to just chill or relax, have a great and different dine-out experience, or simply enjoy a great meal with your friends and family can still be a valid reason to go.

When we visited, we were offered these complimentary pre-meal munchy slices of bread while waiting for our orders to be served.

The first to come was this ceasar salad (solo) for P225. It was good, served fresh and the taste was evenly distributed where every bite was great.

Next was this lemon cheesecake for P250. Don't be fooled looking at this photo as I did not capture its enormous size in reality. It was bigger than I expected, really. I did take home most of it as the flavor of the cheese was overpowering in a good way (too much for me that time). The base of the cake was good though which was unusual for me to notice. Well, it's better if you'll taste it yourself, right?

They actually have a product/service called create your own platter there which you have to select 5 different types of cheese and cold cuts then they will build it for you. Interesting. Maybe next time.

One of the main courses we ordered was this tenderloin steak which they call Filet Mignon for P899. As an honest review, I did find the serving a bit small for its price but the taste makes up for it. Well, presentation-wise, it was served well but overall it can still be improved specifically on serving size and plating.

As a confession, we are not a frequent steak eater and this is a well-done version. So feel free to judge.  It tasted great though but the amount of serving just made the experience somehow less.

And last but not the least, we also ordered a half-half pizza of fino garden and garlic cheese shrimp flavors for P579. You'll never go wrong with the garlic cheese shrimp but the fino garden is a winner as well. Not only that this pizza looks good but it tastes great too! I suggest ordering one pizza for every group to at least have a go-to meal that can be for everyone.

All in all, it was a different experience for us. A good one, actually.. It's definitely just a taste of what Fino Deli can offer as it's evident that it has its specific target market. Well, I bet those wine and cheese-lovers are making the most out of this place so it is a great find.

Their function room should be a great host for private gatherings and events especially if you want to do those similar or related themed-parties or celebrations connected to wine or anything elegant/classic, such themes should be do-able with minimal efforts in a place like this.

  1. It's always nice to find a new place to eat, especially when it's somewhere unexpected! I'm a picky eater, so I can be nervous about trying new places, but I've been branching out more recently and have been pleasantly surprised about some new eateries around me as well. It's nice not to have to eat at the same few places every week!

  8. This is what my cousin was telling me bout. Happy to know that this not just for wine-lovers so we can bring the whole family when we visit. The shrimp pizza looks good. Will try that soon.
