Aton's "kanto" fried chicken Marikina review

They say that if you want to know more about the people in the city, try the local foods found in the streets. Well, if you are from Marikina, one of the staple street foods that are making a name for itself is this "kanto" fried chicken that has been present for quite a time now.

Aton's Fried Chicken has been serving since 1996 and until now, their brand is one of the household names when it comes to being preferred by the Marikeños and its nearby cities.

They have different branches in Marikina and San Mateo, Rizal that serves every part of the chicken including their best-sellers which are the neck part (leeg) and chicken skin.

Their prices are quite affordable which is very convenient if you just wanted to have a taste or try something new for a good food trip or merienda. Well, for us, we did buy a whole chicken for dinner for the whole family at that time.

I was asked if I wanted it chopped or not (chose chopped) then they provided sauces as they wrap my order. I was so tempted to order some chicken skin on the side but maybe next time. Let's try the chicken first.

What I like about eating their fried chicken is that it is perfect to partner with some mixed vegetables. A great opportunity to eat more veggies without sacrificing the taste. I like eating Aton's fried chicken without any sauce where gravy and vinegar are some of the provided choices. Their gravy tastes a little bit sweet but I guess that is a typical Pinoy preference since we generally like sweeter versions of everything.

The taste of the chicken skin was balanced. It was not that salty and was just right for the fried chicken so I enjoyed it very much. My brother even ate all of the remaining parts later on that night so I think this is a good sign for Aton's.

It seems my chicken skin order will be next!

  1. This kind of small-scale business is deemed essential to the community. Good on you for being a loyal customer to the business. This kind of shop is what I miss a lot in the Philippines!

  4. I have never seen a whole fried chicken before! In the Untied States, we usually cut the chicken up into legs, thighs, breasts, and so on and then fry it. But it looks so yummy! I was motivated to comment after I saw that picture.
