Balay Dako review | When in Tagaytay

Tagaytay has been one of the go-to places here in the Philippines when it comes to family road trips, barkada escapades, or to even those special dates. But with lots of options in the vicinity, you may want to include our featured establishment in one of your priorities to visit if you want a solid experience that is very recommendable.

Balay Dako offers not only our favorite Filipino dishes but gives that full classic Tagaytay experience including the front seat overlooking views of the Taal Volcano and the Taal Lake with that refreshing cold temperature around. Who would not want that, right?!

This classic Filipino chandelier will welcome you as you enter the 3-level establishment.

The large main dining place has its inner and outer area where the outer one for me is the one considered as the window seat dining of the place. Well, the views can be seen from every seat inside but of course, the nearer to the window, the better the experience.

By the way, all areas are considered alfresco since every dining spot inside is open-air. All those windows are just screen windows letting the circulation of the cold air pass through and out. It was really comfortable inside and with a view like that, can you even ask for more?

We ordered for sharing foods so we can taste a bit of everything and it was all extra delicious! The spare ribs were perfectly sweet, sour, and spicy while the calamares' coating was already tasty. Man, the gulaman serving was right on the money and its sweetness was balanced. If you want to see more of the foods we ordered, watch the video below.

I don't eat "Piyaya" but they are making it live there which can be considered as an entertainment too. Though I don't eat Piyaya, Mom told us that it was good and she had more than 1 already which says something really nice about it - deliciously crispy.

Exploring the other levels, the upper dining was as superb, classic, and classy. It also has the best overlooking spot ideal for that Instagrammable entry. Picture perfect!? Indeed!

The establishment is big and you can only appreciate it when you try to cover everything. I initially thought it was small but when I tried covering the other floors, that is the only time I realized how spacious their territory is. #ibadin

If you want to have your picture taken nearest to their signage, go to the lower level and there are even more tables and chairs there for more guests.

Their facade can be underwhelming but given the large parking space in front, you know they already got a lot of patrons and now I know why.

  4. LOVE the wall of screened in "windows" wish we had more places like that here. I much prefer a natural breeze than air conditioning

  6. I have heard great reviews about Balay Dako but we never had a chance to visit yet. I think it was 4-5 years already since I have been to Tagaytay. Thank you for sharing this detailed review. Since, I am from Bacolod, we'll be skipping the piaya for now and simply enjoy the magnificent view with delicious food.
